Festival Memorial Day (Decoration Day) is observed on the last Monday of May. Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Memorial Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. It is traditional to fly the flag of the United States at half-staff from dawn until noon. Many people visit cemeteries and memorials, particularly to honor those who have died in military service. Many families go on vacation on Memorial Day weekend, and many others who are off work or out of school stay home and enjoy family picnics and get-togethers. However, Memorial Day in 2017 will be observed on Monday, 29th May. Memorial Day is a federal holiday. All non-essential Government offices are closed, as are schools, businesses and other organizations. Most public transit systems do not run on their regular schedule. There is much patriotic significance attached to Memorial Day, and there are many events, both public and private, going on. edit event delete event

Festival President's Day is Washington's Birthday and is a federal holiday held on the third Monday of February. Washington's Birthday officially honors the life and work of George Washington, the first president of the United States. The day commemorates past presidents of the USA. Then along came Abraham Lincoln, another revered president and fellow February baby (born on the 12th February). The first formal observance of his birthday took place in 1865, the year after his assassination when both houses of Congress gathered for a memorial address. However, Presidents' Day in 2017 will be observed on Monday, 20th February. edit event delete event

Festival Martin Luther King Day every year is celebrated on the third Monday of January. It is an American federal holiday which marks the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. It is seen as a day to promote equal rights for all Americans, regardless of their background. On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered his revolutionary spirit. It is a day of interracial and intercultural cooperation and sharing. No other day of the year brings so many peoples from different cultural backgrounds together in such a vibrant spirit of brother and sisterhood. However, Martin Luther King Day in 2017 is observed on Monday, 16th January. The holiday would not have been possible without the tireless leadership of the King Center’s founder and long-time president, Mrs. Coretta Scott King. edit event delete event

Festival Lent is a period of fasting, moderation, and self-denial traditionally observed by Catholics and some Protestant denominations. It begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. It is a time of self-examination and reflection. In the early church, Lent was a time to prepare new converts for baptism. Today, Christians focus on their relationship with God, often choosing to give up something or to volunteer and give of themselves for others. However, Lent in 2017 will begin on Wednesday, 1st March and will last for 40 days till Saturday, 15th April. Lent should not be a time of boasting of one’s sacrifice or trying to earn God's favor or increasing His love. God’s love for us could not be any greater than it already is. Sundays in Lent are not counted in the forty days because each Sunday represents a "mini-Easter" and the reverent spirit of Lent is tempered with joyful anticipation of the Resurrection. edit event delete event

Festival The Day of Arafah is the day on which Muslim Hajj pilgrims gather on Mount Arafah, praying and supplicating to their Lord. Originally, this day fell on Friday but with every passing year, the day might not remain the same. It is celebrated on 9th day of Dhul Hijja persisting in the lunar Islamic calendar. Just after the day of Ramadan and 70 days Waqf-al Arafa is celebrated. Many Muslim people believes that, if they keep fast on the day of Waqf-al Arafa, all sins which they have committed in past will be over. Not only this, also the sins which you will be committing in the future will be removed. However, Waqf al Arafa in 2017 will begin on the evening of Wednesday, 30th August and will end on the evening of Thursday, 31st August. People also believe that, as and when Allah completes his blessing, he forgives all sins of the pilgrims who worship Allah. edit event delete event

Festival Laylat al Qadr (Shab-e-Qadr) is known as "The Night of Power" . Under the Islamic observance, this day marks the anniversary of the night when Mohammad received the first verses of the Koran (Qu'ran). Some Muslims spend most of the time during the last 10 days and nights of Ramadan in a mosque. During the hours of daylight, they pray, read the Koran and may rest or sleep. It is also believed that this night marks the Muslims fate in the following year. This "Night of Power" is considered the most appropriate time of the entire year to pray for salvation and blessings. However, Laylat al Qadr in 2017 will begin on the evening of Tuesday, 20th June and will end on the evening of Wednesday, 21st June. It is believed that a Muslim’s past sins are forgiven if the person prays throughout this night. Many people assemble at mosques during the Isha’ prayer, with many prayers being made until midnight. edit event delete event

Festival Thanksgiving is one of the most family-oriented holidays on the calendar, and it is easily the most "relaxed" of them since it is generally spent entirely at home with family and friends. It is a federal holiday. People provide free Thanksgiving dinners for the needy, holding food drives, and giving charitable contributions in general. The Salvation Army is especially famous for enlisting volunteers to serve Thanksgiving dinner to the poor. However, Thanksgiving day in 2017 will be observed on Thursday, 23th November. The exact date of this thanksgiving feast is uncertain, but it seems to have happened in late September or early November. Thanksgiving dinners can consist of a number of items. Some of the more traditional dishes include turkey, corn, beans, stuffing, dressing, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, casseroles and numerous desserts. edit event delete event

Event Cyber Monday falls on the first Monday after Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday in the United States. The idea for having such a holiday called Cyber Monday 2016 was created by Tony Valado, in 2003. Cyber Monday is one of the biggest shopping days of the year, when retailers of all kinds bring deep discounts to their online stores. Cyber Monday was created to allow customers to shop online from the comfort of their offices and homes. However, Cyber Monday in 2017 will be observed on Monday, 27th November. Festival Tisha B’Av is observed the ninth day of the month of Av in the Jewish calendar. Tisha B’Av is a sad day that observes other major disasters and tragedies that Jewish people experienced throughout history, including the expulsion of the Jewish people from England in 1290 and from Spain in 1492, and also the mass deportation of Jewish people from the Warsaw Ghetto during World War II. There is a pre-fast meal and a breakfast meal for Tisha B’Av, with no food or drink allowed during the holiday. The pre-fast meal contains only milk, water or boiled eggs dipped in ashes, to symbolize the destruction that is mourned. However, Tisha B'av in 2017 will begin on the evening of Monday, 31st July and will end on the evening of Tuesday, 1st August. edit event delete event
